The desserts in original tea culture

What will people have when they are enjoying afternoon tea with friends?

By my funny research, it is found that, in resent decade, people are not really willing to drink tea, having
the cakes and tarts and sandwiches and sitting in a tea room when they are having afternoon tea. Why this
special phenomenon happened in recent decade?

let's look at what we have in traditional afternoon tea table:

The afternoon tea is no more traditional!
In recent decade, people are started to have their ‘afternoon tea’ in the places other than tea room/saloon as they just thought that afternoon tea is a time for them to gather and that could be anywhere and not
absolutely the traditional ‘afternoon tea’.

They started to choose another places like coffee shop and other shops serve with desserts.

In the ‘contemporary’ afternoon tea, the traditional food on the ‘tea’ table is being changed and they
becomes some new and attractive dessert.

From the pictures, we are able to see that, in today’s afternoon tea table, hot chocolate and desserts like macaroon is becoming more popular than the traditional one as macaroon is a new and tasty desserts for everyone. In addition, teens or adolescent love something sweet more than to have something bored and not tasty!

However, there are still some tea room nowadays and got so many customers that proved traditional afternoon tea is still valuable.

How about you? Would you like to have an afternoon tea in tea
room which serves traditional afternoon or the ‘contemporary’ one?:)

PassionFlower Dessert - "GOLD DIGGER"

PASSION FLOWER DESSERT RESTAURANT- REVIEW ON THE DESSERT "GOLD DIGGER"

Passionflower is an ice cream dessert place in the city, which is unique, compared to the other dessert places I have been to. Their main focus is on ice cream, ice and fresh fruits. The place has western style desserts and well as asian style desserts to address all types of customers. The dessert I particularly like was a dessert called "GOLD DIGGER" .In a tall parfait glass, was shaved ice, mandarins, peaches and mango, topped with passion fruit ice cream. Hidden underneath the ice were lychee jellies. A small cup of mango syrup accompanied this dessert. The syrup allows you to control the amount of sweetness you want for the ice. The different soft shades of orange as well as the white ice and see through jelly are well proportioned and makes the dessert even more appealing. There is a balance of creaminess from the ice cream, the sharp coldness from the ice, the freshness of fruits and the soft jelly all work well together and are not overpowering one another. This may cost $15 to eat, but I actually enjoyed it and willing to come again for it. I give "GOLD DIGGER" a rating of 9 out of 10. It is very delicious and it is perfect to have during a hot day.

Chocolate Del Mondo dessert restaurant - lemon tart

REVIEW ON LEMON TART

The place Chocolate Del Mondo is a chocolate dessert restaurant towards the upper end of Burwood road.

Though it has many chocolate desserts, they have a lot of cakes. Some of these cakes are completely chocolate while others are not. My first time entering the place, I bought a simple lemon tart. The lemon tart looked like a small of mango gelato sitting on a tart with a chocolate rim. What I liked about this place is that they did not try to overload the chocolate on all their cakes. The lemon filling was really sour compared to the slight sweetness in the tart base. There wasn’t a thick, plastic feel comparing to the many other lemon tarts sold elsewhere when you first bite into it. This gives a fresh taste along with the crumbly biscuit of the tart. It was simply presented with melted chocolate for decoration which could be eaten with the tart. Though the cakes may been slightly expensive, I believe it is worth the money to eat a freshly made cake. The lemon tart for me was too sour, but overall it tastes great when comparing to other lemon tarts.

I would give this dessert, the lemon tart, a rating of 7 out of 10 and I can’t wait to go again and try their other desserts.

Funny Afternoon Tea desserts culture

Afternoon Tea culture is originally come from England, which was a meal for people in a monarchy to spend their time gather together. Nowadays, afternoon tea becomes a popular culture between women who wanted to chit chat or to have a time with someone who have not seen for a long time.

People are always having desserts and sandwiches during afternoon tea such as mini fruit tarts and mini sandwiches with different flavors. However, afternoon tea culture is no longer only popular in England but also many countries like America, Australia, Korea and Japan.

In this video, we can see so many traditional type mini desserts which appear in the England afternoon tea culture that something’s like cakes and tarts. However, tea culture will change followed by the local culture.
For example, in the video above, we are able to see that, the afternoon tea culture in Japan has changed a bit as it needs to fit the Japanese food preference, so it changed the cakes and tarts into some traditional Japanese desserts called Wagashi and changed the sandwiches into udon noodles.

Anyone who got any other special afternoon tea desserts cultures from other countries?:)

Sweet desserts can make people feel happier

There's a phase that "Sweet desserts can make people feel happier", desserts can be a relaxing snack after a heavy full meal or a refreshing sweet before a snap during the late afternoon. Generally, desserts are categorized into solid and liquid form, whereas Western style desserts are mainly in solid form. Some typical examples of Western desserts are cakes, patisseries, pancakes, chocolates etc. Some Western people would like to serve coffee with the desserts too. In Chinese desserts as well as Hong Kong desserts, there are several of them are served with a more liquid form, for example a mango juicy-like mixed with coconut milk, as they think a liquid form dessert may be more effectively to release the fullness-feeling after a big heavy meal and this might be better for the food digesting system.

Take a high tea desserts meal at QVB – The Tea Room as an example of a western style experience, I felt very full and quite dry after having the desserts. It is true that the tiny good looking cakes with different flavours tasted yummy and alluring, but I could not really finish all of them and felt like I just had a very heavy meal after that. My suggestion of a successful tasty desserts meal is avoid putting in too much flour and sugar when preparing the ingredients, otherwise people may not feel as enjoyable as the outstanding look of the dessert. In this situation, I might prefer more of a liquid-form dessert.

BLOG DESIGN

DESIGN LAYOUT OF THE BLOG

  • As seen from the below picture is a draft layout of the blog. The design of the blog is very simple. The topic is based on desserts. The main image or "logo" will be a picture of many kinds of dessert or it can be a specific dessert (haven't quite decide on it yet).
  • Under the image will be the heading of our group/title of the blogsite which is isys100desserts or just Desserts.
  • Below that is the date first, then title of the blog post, then below is the post. It may contain images of desserts or maybe videos of desserts and this layout will continue throughout the assignment period.
  • On the right hand side there are different gadgets in the blog. We are using blog archive and  profile of the blogger
  • Colours: background colour is basically brown ( we are keeping it like that because it represents desserts basically, for example chocolate is in the colour brown). With the colour font of the blog, It can be ranged from just plain black or can be many colourful colours such as red, yellow or green. In saying this, it can represent the many kind of desserts in many colours. ( this will may change as progress with the blog continues on, so colour scheme and fonts etc will change)
  • Tags of the blog will be based on the blogpost so for example if the blog talks about max brenner, we will tag max brenner and the desserts at max brenner if mention in the post.
